Credit Card For Bad CreditCredit Card for Bad Credit: Compare Offers Before You Complete An ApplicationAs you have probably seen during your search on the Internet, there are many companies that offer credit cards for people with bad credit. The question that many people have is how to select a good credit card for bad credit. If you are hoping to get an unsecured credit card, this means a normal credit card that issues you a line of credit like a typical credit card, and you currently have a bad credit rating with recent delinquent marks, you are going to find that your options are very limited and your card options are actually not so good. I'm not saying there are not companies that will not issue you an unsecured credit card even with current bad credit, I am just saying that there offers tend to be quite expensive for the small credit line that they are going to give you while you currently have bad credit. Anyone who has bad credit should be thinking about repairing their credit even while they are searching for a credit card. There are many credit cards available for people with bad credit that will also repair your credit at the same time. Having use these cards myself I can personally recommend secured credit cards as the best credit card for bad credit because they have reasonable fees and will also work to very quickly improve your credit scores. Make sure to compare many offers from the companies that are advertising credit cards for people with bad credit as you do have many options, but you will see after reading them closely, there are major differences in their features and costs. You will soon find out that you have many options, but some of these may be credit cards you have not had before? When you have terrible credit, you only have two options. One being using a secured credit card until your credit gets better. Number two is repairing your credit before you get a credit card. The problem with this is that you probably want to have the convenience of a credit card so that you can buy things online, book hotel rooms and everything else that essentially requires the use of a credit card. If this is your current need, then your best option is to get a secured credit card. Not only do these cards give you all the benefits of a normal credit card, they also help you to repair you damaged credit history. The good secured credit cards will report you payment history to the major credit bureaus, and this counts as a new good line of credit. I personally suggest having two of these cards if you want to get the most out of them for repairing damaged credit. The results are not immediate, but they will start to show up in a few months, and eventually in a few years, just by having these cards, you will qualify for unsecured cards. Assuming of course you pay start paying all of your bills on time. If you are simply looking for a credit card because you want to take on more debt, while you have bed credit, it just will not happen. A few years ago, this was possible, but today the credit card companies have gotten smarter and will not issue a credit card to someone with really bad credit unless it is secured or if you are lucky enough to have someone else apply for it (like a parent or spouse) Everyone can be subjected to a bad credit rating – however good a citizen you might be. There are just a lot of reasons which can lead to this very unfortunate circumstance. If, for example, you lost your job, or had a pay cut, there is a very real chance that you will not be able to pay your bills and your debts on time. As such, you will earn negative credit points. Additionally, if you declared for bankruptcy, or lost your house, your credit rating will, unavoidably, receive a very terrible blow. The thing is, if you have bad credit, you will find it particularly taxing to have your very own credit card for bad credit. In addition, in today’s world where almost all important deals are done digitally, a credit card is highly essential. Indeed, life would almost be unbearably difficult without a credit card. Reserving for a ticket or even the purchase of a lot of domestic goods, for example, needs credit cards. But, it must also be noted that the credit cards that you use need to be paid. And, if you are in such a financially bad shape, if your credit is bad, then you have to avoid having a lot of debts which would only add to your already massive bulk of debts and unpaid bills. A person with a bad credit must understand fully well that he needs to see a financial counselor to assist him handle the debt situation, especially if the bad credit was caused by debt and financial mishandling. The Secured Card Defined Fortunately, there is a credit card for bad credit, there are quite a handful of them out there, in fact. These cards are particularly different from cards available to good credit individuals because they have special features which enable the card’s software to directly and indirectly assist the handler. The bad credit individual will have a variety of options in choosing a credit card for bad credit. First of all, there is the pre-paid card which is also called the secured card. This type of card is fairly similar to ordinary cards, except that the limit is much, much lower. This is because the amount that you can use is based on the deposit which the card handler – in this case, you – has deposited before. The person will be given a plastic credit card, just like in other types of cards. He can use that card just like any other cards, too. However, contrary to regular credit cards, the credit card for bad credit is specifically limited. Say, if the depositor placed $500, he can only make use of that amount, nothing more. That is why it is called the secured card because the person with bad credit will not use more than the amount that he can afford to pay. So, once the card is out of juice, he can refill it again by depositing a desired amount. But the best thing about this type of card is that there is no way that the bad credit person will overspend. Selecting Your Cards There are two major criteria to look for in selecting secured cards. The first is the fees involved for the use of the card. The second being to make sure that they report to the major credit bureaus. Regarding the fees, you will see that most charge both an application fee and an annual fee. So be careful to read the small print, as you do not want to pay the non-refundable application fee only to find out you cannot pay their annual fee. If you compare some of the cards listed here, you will see that many offer very reasonable fees, but again, you have to compare and read the fine print. I have seen some with both low application fee and low annual fees. However, I have seen some that try to trick you with a very low application fee, but stick you with a very high annual fee. So try to find one or two that offer the best of both. No secured card will be free; they all charge you something for their services. Yet, their advantages are far superior to a prepaid type card, which really does nothing for your credit ratings, and does not have your name on it. Second is since you are paying to have the cards you want to be sure they report to the major credit bureaus so you can use these to rebuild your damaged credit rating. Two new credit lines with a perfect payment history will gain you many points on your credit score. I have taken out these cards just for this reason alone. Secured credit cards that report to the bureaus each month truly work wonders on bad credit ratings. One last thing that you may want to consider is that many of these cards have a limit on how much you can deposit and how easy it is to raise your credit limit. Therefore, if you need a card with a high limit, you have to carefully look for this feature. Many of these cards will only allow a maximum of two thousand dollars, so if you need one to hold five thousand, you will need to do some searching. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend any card as being the best as they have a problem with changing their rates and terms too fast for anyone to follow. Therefore, what you have to do is look at the current offers and then choose among those. The good news is that once you have agreed to their terms, they do not change them, as they know by doing so; you would just leave and get another. So check the offers such as those listed here, and find a card that best suits your needs. |
